If you could talk to a younger you what would you say?
I recently had the pleasure of interviewing the lovely and amazingly talented Michelle John on my show "The Writer's Block" she is one the most amazing vocalists from the UK. She has performed with some of the greatest artists we know like: Mariah Carey, Elton John, George Michael, Lenny Kravitz, Tom Jones, Whitney Houston and Sheryl Crow. She is currently on tour with Eric Clapton but took time to hang out with me to talk about her EP "Little Me" and her future plans. By the way her "Little Me" EP is great. I heard a song she did called "Little Me" which is actually the title track from the EP she released which funnily enough is her first personal release after being in the industry for a long time and recording with many of the greatest artists. In fact me interviewing her was her first solo radio interview ever which blew my mind considering the fact that she is well known and respected in the music business! I mean she has been the vocal tutor for many pop artists like, Rita Ora, Razorlight , Girl’s Aloud, Atomic Kitten, Liberty X, Mis-Teeq, Bryan Mc Fadden,Westlife and many others!
She told me in the interview that she almost left the song off the EP because she felt it was too personal. All I can say is I am glad that she didn't leave it off the EP. This video of her singing it live is the actual version on the EP so it is raw and real without any editing.
I was so moved by this song that I found myself sampling the track and making a beat and in no time writing a couple of verses. Michelle John described her song "Little me" this way: "If i could have a conversation with me at 9 yrs old this is what i'd say". So I ended up writing to young nova. I recorded it and it came out like this:
